Dr. Perlmutter is a Past President (2022) of the United States Section of the International College of Surgeons. He is also the current President of the World Surgical Foundation (WSF). His involvement with the WSF has most recently taken him to Honduras for several mission trips over the past few years.

Dr. Walt Johnson is currently the National and International Advocacy Manager for Mercy Ships (www.mercyships.org). He is also Professor of Neurosurgery and Public Health, and the Founding Director of the Center for Global Surgery at Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California, USA. His career is focusing on surgical care through the lenses of clinical medicine, global health, and social justice. 

Previously, he led the Emergency and Essential Surgical Care Programme at World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland from 2015-2019.

Dr. Johnson completed an MD at Loma Linda University, neurosurgery training at SUNY-Health Science Center at Brooklyn, and cerebrovascular fellowship at UCLA. He was involved in academic neurosurgery for many years, serving as the Vice-Chairman of Neurosurgery at Loma Linda University for over a decade.

Dr. Johnson also holds an MBA from the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito School of Management, and an MPH from the School of Community and Global Health, both at Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California.

He currently resides in Southern California.

Dr. Katayoun Madani is the MD Anderson visiting fellow in Global Surgery Policy and Advocacy at the Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University and Michael E DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. She is also a Global Surgery Clinical Instructor at Center for Global Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Her current research interests involve; evaluation and development of policies that improve access to emergency and trauma surgical healthcare in areas of disparities whether in the rural areas of the United States or across the globe, and policies for medical licensing towards equitable bidirectional academic global surgery exchanges. Dr. Madani is the first Vice President of Internal Affairs of the Association of Academic Global Surgery, and serves as the Past Chair and member of the Board of Directors of InciSioN, as well as InciSioN’s special Liaison to Executive Council of ICS USS.
