Benefits of Membership

Watch a short video to learn more about ICS and what it has to offer.

Continuing Medical Education Meetings
There are many CME meetings held around the world under the auspices of ICS each year. Organized into 6 Federations (North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific), you can find an ICS meeting on almost any continent. In the United States, the largest ICS national section produces an Annual Surgical Update as well as smaller regional programs by several very active state surgical divisions. As an ACCME accredited provider of AMA Category 1 CME, the United States Section of ICS offers its members deeply discounted registration fees compared to those of non-members.

Publications
International Surgery is the peer-reviewed, scientific journal of the ICS and serves as a forum for the exchange of surgical knowledge throughout the world. (The ICS Journal is published electronically, is included with your membership and can be accessed at www.internationalsurgery.org/.)

International Surgical Passport
Once you are a Fellow of ICS, you may request your International Surgical Passport. It will serve as your credentials to identify you as an ICS Fellow while traveling around the world. ICS can provide contacts all over the world who are willing to assist you during your visit to their country. This unique form of identification may allow you to observe or participate in surgical procedures performed at international hospitals and medical facilities.

Research Scholarship Competition
The ICS-US Section provides funding through an annual research scholarship competition to newly trained surgeons, residents and medical students to enable them to increase their surgical experience and keep them on the cutting edge of significant medical developments.

International Museum of Surgical Science
The ICS proudly owns and operates the International Museum of Surgical Science, adjacent to its Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. This unique museum embodies surgical history and the advances made in the art and science of surgery through the years. Open since the early 1950s, the museum is a powerful tool for educating the general public regarding the fascinating world of medicine and surgery. Visit the Museum's web site at www.imss.org

Humanitarian Projects
Members are encouraged to participate in ICS humanitarian projects or develop their own surgery related humanitarian missions under the auspices of ICS. One such endeavor endorsed by ICS is the Surgical Teams Project in which members travel to developing nations to share up-to-date surgical techniques and developments. Each "team" establishes a fraternal exchange with the host country, which continues long after the mission is completed.
