Joshua M.V. Mammen, MD; ICSUS Regent, ICSUS Alternate Delegate to the American Medical Association and new Chair of the ICSUS Surgical Oncology Specialty Group.

The ICSUS Regent from Kansas, Dr. Josh Mammen has been a member of ICS since 2013. He has been actively participating in US Section activities since his membership was conferred at the 2014 Annual Meeting in Memphis. He became a Regent for Kansas in 2016 and the ICSUS Alternate Delegate to the AMA House of Delegates earlier this year. Most recently he was appointed as the Chair of the ICSUS Surgical Oncology Specialty Group and serves on the Educational Planning Committee in this capacity. Dr. Mammen will also become an ICSUS Vice President on January 1st being elected to this position during the Annual Meeting in Pennsylvania this past May.

Dr. Mammen is Professor of Surgery (tenured) and Molecular & Integrative Physiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Department of Surgery and Division Chief of Surgical Oncology.   Dr. Mammen grew up in Kaplan, Louisiana, a small town in the heart of Acadiana.  He graduated summa cum laude with a double major in History and Medical Science from Boston University.  He went on to medical school at Boston University.  After a Surgery Residency at the University of Cincinnati, he completed a clinical fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.  He additionally was awarded a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology, a Masters in Education, and a Masters in Business Administration (dual concentration in Marketing and Management), all from the University of Cincinnati.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society for Surgical Oncology.

His clinical interest lies in oncologic surgery with a focus on melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas, breast cancer and advanced colon cancer.  Dr. Mammen is also actively involved in basic science and translational research focusing on the signaling mechanisms determining cancer cell survival/stemness and assists in enrolling interested patients in on-going clinical trials.  He has served as the State Chair for Kansas of the Commission on Cancer and President of the Kansas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.   He currently serves as Chair of KUMC's Cancer Committee, and Chair of the Kansas Cancer Partnership Early Diagnosis and Detection Committee as well as the President of the Kansas City Medical Society

When Dr. Mammen is not teaching residents and students or caring for his patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife and five children.
